Don’t Settle for Crumbs

I felt like a “kid” from a third world country, preaching in my very first US Convention. So I was thrilled and nervous at the same time.
Nervous because I was going to preach to Americans. (Will they listen to a brown-skinned Pinoy? Will they understand my jokes?) Nervous because most of the other
Speakers were big time American Bishops and Priests. And nervous because I was in my twenties, their youngest Speaker.
I felt small, young, and ignorant.
After my talk (which to my surprise turned out very well), the Convention broke up for lunch. Participants made a beeline to the door, scattering to the different restaurants around.
Being a poor Pinoy, I decided to save money. I spotted a quiet corner in the hall, sat down on the carpeted floor, and munched my biscuits. That was my lunch and I was happy.
The next day, I preached another talk.
And again, during lunchtime, I did the exact same thing: I found my quiet corner, sat on the floor, and ate my biscuit.
And that was when one of the organizers saw me and almost shouted, “There you are! I’ve been looking for you. Brother Bo, what are you doing there sitting on the floor?”
Your Name Is Already Written
On Every Blessing Designated For Your Life
“Eating my lunch,” I smiled.
“But Brother Bo, we have lunch prepared for all the Speakers. The Bishops and the other Speakers are waiting for you!”
Now I kind of figured that the organizers would prepare lunch for the Bishops. But for me too? Nah. I was this kid from the Philippines.
But when she escorted me to the dining room–lo and behold–it was a huge buffet! There was a long table filled with food. There were five main dishes with two desserts and waiters serving drinks.
And to my greater surprise, on top of table was a little card with my name on it, “Bo Sanchez – Speaker.” It had been waiting for me all along.

10 Habits To A Healthy Body

Your future will be defined by your habits.
I’m ready to die anytime—right this minute if necessary. (I hope my wife isn’t reading this, because she hates it when I start talking this way.) My soul is prepared to go home to God at any moment.
But I also want to prepare for a long and healthy life—and that’s so possible. Studies show that the life span of human beings is getting longer. Babies born today have an average life span of 101 years old.
But hey, I don’t want to be lying down in bed when I hit 90! That’s the last thing I want to do. I want to be 90 and still be preaching around the world! And still be making love to my spouse. (Okay, I want my wife to read that one.)
Here are my 10 Habits To A Healthy Body:

1. Move!

I already mentioned that each morning, I do simple stretching and breathing Tai Chi movements—and pray to Jesus too—for 30 minutes. I also cycle for an hour on my stationary bike, all the while reading 5 chapters of the Bible and other spiritual books, or writing my journal in my laptop. I also do a few pushups, sit-ups, and chin-ups. I’ll never win Mr. Universe, but it’s enough to tone my muscles. I learned that when we hit 50, we start losing 1.5% of our muscle strength every year. This is the reason why you see a lot of 60-year-old people who are very weak today—because they didn’t move their body. So walk. Swim. Play badminton. Move!

2. Eat The Best Kinds Of Food

More than fourteen years ago, I stopped eating beef, pork, and chicken. Seven years ago, I also gave up crabs and shrimps. So my diet consists of fish and vegetables. At home, we eat organic brown rice and wheat bread. We also fry with soya oil or soybean oil. (Olive oil is too expensive.)
The Old Testament called certain foods unclean—like pork, crustaceans, shells, fish without scales—and modern science has found out that many of these foods have higher toxicity. Pork has more toxins than other meats. Crustaceans and shells are the scavengers of the sea. And because fish release their toxins through their scales, fish without scales have slightly more toxins. I’m not saying you shouldn’t eat these delicious food, but perhaps minimize them in your diet.

3. Juice Your Vegetables

Every morning, I drink fresh vegetable juice. I throw into my Juicer four large carrots, one long celery stick, and one apple. The advantage of juicing? By juicing, I’m able to consume 4 large carrots in two minutes flat—something that would take me one hour if I munched them. As I drink my juice every morning, I picture God nourishing me in every part of my body. It works!

4. Supplement

I’m a firm believer in taking supplements. I take a mega dose of vitamin C, fish oil (Omega 3), and other multi-vitamins. I also take a list of supplements too long to mention here. Before I drink them, I bless them.  So they contain a double punch!

5. Sleep Like a Babe

I usually dose off at 11:30 pm and wake up at 6:00 am. Six and a half hours is enough for me. If I feel a need to take a quick afternoon nap, I do it. I try to listen to my body. Praying before you sleep is fantastic because you’re able to surrender all your worries to God. So before I sleep, I do 20 minutes of my simple Tai Chi exercises again—as I surrender to Jesus all my stress. When I do this, I sleep like a babe.

6. Drink Enough

The first thing I do when I wake up is drink a glass of room temperature water. As I drink it, I ask the Holy Spirit to cleanse me. After my exercise, I drink my carrot juice. Here’s what I found out: For many of us, what we think are hunger pangs may just be our thirst. So when you feel hungry, drink water first. And eat water-rich foods like fruits and vegetables.

7. Work With Passion

Get into something your love to do. When you enjoy your work, it isn’t work. It’s play. And that keeps your body humming. If you can see your job as a sacred mission from God, you wake up in the morning with joy and excitement. Your body gets the message: “I need you to be healthy, because I’m here to bless the world.” (I have a TrulyRichClub where I coach people in their finances and work. To join, log on at www.TrulyRichClub.com now.)

8. Feel Your Feelings

Our bodies are simply the blueprints of our emotions. When we get sick in our bodies, many times, it’s simply manifesting our stress, our fears, our anxiety, and our unresolved angers. I strongly urge you to become aware of your emotions and bring them constantly to the Lord. Before Him, work through them. Feel them, yes. Respect your emotions, yes. But lay them at His feet and follow God only.

9. Be Happy

Be a positive person. If you’re a child of God, how can you not think positive? If you believe that “all things work for good to those who love God”, how can you not rejoice even in your problems? Happy people are generally healthier than unhappy people.

10. Love Well

What keeps me healthy? I play with my kids on the floor everyday. (I call it “floor time”.) Each week, I date my wife and hold hands often. And I have fantastic friends!
Once upon a time, an Elderly home had a very high death rate: One resident died each month. But one day, a volunteer came and started social activities among the old people. As the old people engaged with each other in conversation, the mortality rate plunged dramatically almost overnight. Just being in relationships will make you healthier. Imagine how healthy you will be if those relationships are deep and loving?
Be healthy, my friend. God needs you to bless the world.
May your dreams come true,

Just Do It a Little Bit Differently

I love the story of Peter’s failed fishing expedition.
One day, he told Jesus, “Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing.” In fact, they’ve been fishing the whole night and couldn’t even catch a skinny shrimp.
But Jesus told him, “Lower down your nets one more time. But lower it at the deeper part of the sea.”
In my language, Jesus was saying, “Don’t give up. Hustle.”
And when he did as Jesus told him, Peter received abundance.  He caught so much fish, the Bible says their nets began to break and their boats almost sank at the weight of the fish (Luke 5:5-7).
Friends, if you want a blessing from God, you don’t give up. You do whatever it takes to get it.  Do what you have to do one more time, but do it in different way. Go deeper. Go higher.  Go lower.  Just do it.
You know what our problem is?
When we fail, we automatically think we’re losers.
No, we’re not.
You can never be a loser because you come from God.
Because of that fact, you’re a champion.
Always!

How To Heal Toxic Stresses

To heal toxicity, you need to DETOXIFY.
The body has built-in mechanisms to release toxins from the body, namely: sweating, urinating, bowel movement and exhaling.
Example of activities that promote these mechanisms are the following:
  • Sweating — sauna, exercising
  • Urinating — increasing water intake, like a glass of water hourly except during meals, to promote urine formation, and having regular bathroom breaks to take a leak
  • Bowel movement — increasing fiber intake, squatting during defecation, having colon enemas
  • Exhaling — deep breathing exercises and meditation
On the energy level, you detoxify negative feelings out of your life. You let go and let God. Release unforgiveness and be at peace. Healing comes when there is trust and surrender.
It’s OK to feel angry, or even a little worry or a negative feeling. But the negative feelings should have an expiration date. The faster you get it out of your system, the better.
Some people harbor negative feelings that they don’t realize they’ve been keeping inside for too long. Some people brush their feelings aside, sweeping them under the rug or keeping them inside a closet. But that destructive habit actually makes the negative feelings pile up in our system, and we notice them only when they’re about to burst out of the closet. Think: Are there negative feelings like anger, jealousy or guilt lingering in your system? Those negative feelings are the root causes of your health problems. Detoxify and flush them out of your system today.
To heal deficiency, you need to NOURISH.
My rule here is this:
Do what your body will thank you for.
Eat food that’s good for you. Go for nutrient- dense food like fruits and vegetables. They are easily digestible and absorbed by the body. They have live enzymes that support your body’s functions.
Eat less of processed food like chips, sodas and processed meat. They’re empty calorie food, meaning they have low nutritive value. Plus, they contain a number of chemicals that are harmful to your body. Do you know that you can clean up your toilet bowl with soda? Pour it in the bowl, leave it for a few hours, and voila! The stains will be removed. The reason? Soda is acidic. One of its harmful ingredients is phosphoric acid, a flavor enhancer and a preservative. If your stomach and intestines could talk, what would they tell you when you soak it with a lot of soda and acidic food? Well, your body actually sends you signals like stomach bloating, gastric pains, heartburn, and even a bulging tummy. Listen to your body, my friend. Eat food that your body will thank you for.
Do activities that your body will thank you for.
Your magnificent body is created to be strong and agile. You have limbs for movement and locomotion. When you stop moving, your body starts to degrade. In medical terms, when your muscles are not used enough, they atrophy.
Nourish your body with meaningful activities, anything that keeps your body, mind and heart sharp.
Take a walk. Exercise regularly. Play sports, not through your Playstation or iPad but actually go and sweat it out.
Bathe in the sun for 15 minutes daily. It’s great for your body. It gives you natural vitamin D, makes your bones stronger, and is a natural antidepressant.
Spend time with nourishing friends. Surround yourself with good and positive-thinking friends. Be with dreamers, and those who also strive for life-work- relationship-faith balance.
Nourish your mind with activities that will make you sharp. I prefer board games and card games rather than gadget games. It keeps your senses sharp. Go for group play rather than solo play. It’s good to have fun together.
Nourish your mind with good reading. Read one book a month. Digest and enjoy each page. Hold off with the negative news. When I read the newspaper or newsfeed, I deliberately look only for good news, or something that will help me stay informed without overwhelming me with too much information.
As you continue your journey towards fullness of health and wholeness, consider treating the root causes instead of just treating the symptoms.
Pause now and reflect.
How’s the level of your health now?
Do you have particular conditions that you want to fully heal?
What contributes to the toxicity and deficiency of your body and being?
If you are not happy with the fruit, you can start healing from the roots.
Remember to detoxify and nourish. Create an action plan today.
